| Paper Tree is our patent and a distinct quality tree that has been developed over 30 years of committed research. This special tree has been developed from more than 2,500 specimen breeds by using tissue culture technology to come up with a high and uniform quality tree clone that suits Thailand’s soil and climatic condition. Moreover, Paper Trees are fast-growing trees, which take only 3-5 years to mature. These special trees are developed to give the best quality wood pulp for paper production. |
Special Qualities of Paper Trees • Each of the Paper Trees is a straight-trunk tree. Once planted, each of them grows fast and erect high to the same level. • Paper Tree doesn’t have taproot, so it is easy for farmers to pull it out of the ground. • Paper Tree has thin and less leaves. Hence it does not block sunlight for rice paddy or other main crops grown in the field. With its less leaves, it has minimum impact to soil and water when they decompose after falling. Besides, its branches also swish off by themselves hence the trees do not require much care to grow. In 1997 we implemented farmed trees project by procuring sapling thru the contracted farmers. We have the largest and most modern manufacturing seedlings in the world by produce the quality paper tree more than 300 million per year. Therefore, the farmers are so confident in every paper tree from us.
Paper Tree Helps to Support Local Communities Each manufacturing process has been conceived around providing job opportunities to the farmers and the communities, starting by supporting farmers to grow Paper Tree along their paddy-ridge or unused spaces between other existing crops so that they could gain additional income. Besides, they could also earn more by working in trees-cutting and transporting logs processes. More importantly, growing Paper Tree also could be a start to make a chain of continual manufacturing like making charcoals, furniture, exporting wood chips, and providing biomass fuel for the electricity generator.
Currently, Shaiyo-AA supports over 2.5 million farmers to earn additional income, which generates a value of 5,000 million baht a year in agricultural sector. This is our hope that such additional income would be a beginning of a sustainable development for a better livelihood of the local community.
